The 2014-2015 T-Bird Season is here!
Tryouts for the 2014-2015 season are now complete and teams are currently being selected.
Thank you for your patience and your continued support of Shorewood Feeder Basketball!
T-Bird Select Girls Hoops is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization established in 2007 that provides an opportunity for girls in grades 5 - 8 to develop basketball skills and play basketball in a competitive environment. T-Bird Select Girls Hoops is a developmental feeder program for Shorewood High School, in the Shoreline School District and participates with 18 other programs representing their local high schools in the WESCO Youth Basketball League.
It is our hope that through involvement in the feeder program, we will prepare our girls for eventual play at the high school level, though participation in the feeder program is not a guarantee that any player will be chosen for a high school roster.
Information about the boys' T-Birds feeder basketball program can be found HERE.
What is a feeder league?
Feeder leagues in our area are usually comprised of 5th through 8th grade youth AAU basketball teams, and are intended to “feed” into a high school attendance area. Each team in our program will represent Shorewood High School in the WESCO Youth Basketball League. The WESCO league is made up of mainly those feeder programs within the WESCO athletic conference and includes 3 schools without a program like ours.
The following 14 teams are participating in the 2014-15 season:
Arlington, Burlington, Ferndale, Kamiak, King's, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, Meadowdale, Mountlake Terrace, Shorecrest, Shorewood, Snohomish and Stanwood.
Practice and Game Schedules:
Two practices per week at either Einstein, Meridian Park, Syre or Shoreline Center Spartan Gym will begin in late October (post try-outs) for official team members.
Practices could take place any night of the week from Monday-Friday. Practices typically last 1.5 hours for younger grades and 2 hours for older grades and may begin as early as 5:00pm and end no later than 9:00pm. Coaches will distribute specific practice information to their teams as it becomes available.
Players must live within the Shorewood HS enrollment boundaries or attend a school that feeds into Shorewood High School. Tryouts are held for 7th & 8th grade girls attending Einstein, as well as 5th and 6th grade girls attending Echo Lake, Highland Terrace, Meridian Park, Room Nine, Parkwood or Syre. Players who live in the Shoreline School District, and attend private school or are home schooled, are also eligible to play on T-Bird Select Girls Hoops teams.
On an exception basis, players may seek a variance into the program per WESCO Youth Basketball League requirements. Requests for variances must be made prior to tryouts. Contact a board member.
For further information about eligibility, please refer to the WYBL Player Eligibility Rules.
For the 2014-2015 school year, we plan to have 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams participating in the program.
HOW MUCH DOES T-BIRD SELECT COST?:
A non-refundable fee of $400 (5th & 6th) or $450 (7th & 8th) is required to cover the coast of league and tournament fees, officiating fees, gym rentals, insurance, equipment and other expenses related to maintaining a quality basketball program.
Players will also be required to obtain a current AAU card which can be purchased online for $14.
This year our girls will be wearing new T-Bird uniforms which will be on loan to the players for the season and returned, laundered, at the end of the season. A nominal fee (to be determined) will be assessed annually to cover the cost of maintaining the uniforms for all girls in the program.
